Samuel Billaud grew up in a well-known Chablis family and cut his teeth at Domaine Billaud Simon, so the region’s steep slopes and limestone soils were familiar long before he launched his own label. In 2009 he decided to step out independently, starting with a small group of carefully chosen vineyards and a very focused idea of what modern Chablis could be. The early releases, marked by precision and tension, quickly drew attention and allowed him to recover further family plots. In just a handful of vintages he turned a personal project into one of Chablis’s reference points, all while staying closely tied to the landscape that shaped him.
