Chandon de Briailles is a family-run domaine rooted in heritage, farming integrity and a very individual style. Certified biodynamic and long-time proponents of whole-bunch fermentation, they craft wines with striking aromatic lift and a vivid sense of place. This is an estate unafraid to follow its own path, and that conviction translates beautifully into the character of the wines.
The reds are perfumed, sappy and full of life, showing a gentle structure that frames rather than dominates. Their whites, meanwhile, deliver clarity and freshness with a quiet mineral hum. There is honesty and charm in everything they produce, making Chandon de Briailles a favourite for those who seek Burgundy with authenticity and soul.
Chandon de Briailles has been in the same family since 1834, when the estate passed to the Countess de Briailles and began its long association with Savigny lès Beaune and Pernand Vergelesses. For much of its history the domaine ticked along in quietly classical fashion, its vines tended in a way that would have felt familiar to many Burgundian families. The real turning point came in the early 2000s, when siblings Claude and François de Nicolay embraced organic and then biodynamic farming and leaned fully into whole bunch fermentation. That decision injected fresh energy into a historic estate, bringing a new clarity and lift to wines that still feel very much of their place.
