Domaine Henri Gouges remains a cornerstone of Nuits-Saint-Georges, crafting wines of authenticity and confident structure. The family’s disciplined vineyard work and traditional approach allow the village’s rugged elegance to shine.
Firm, focused and complex, the wines reveal depth and savoury nuance as they open. Gouges is celebrated for classical, long-lived Burgundies with integrity and substance.
The story of Domaine Henri Gouges starts in the early twentieth century, when Henri, a grower in Nuits Saint Georges, began to keep the best of his fruit and bottle it himself rather than sell everything to négociants. He quickly became known not only for the quality of his wines but also for his strong views on the importance of terroir, playing an active role in the creation of Burgundy’s appellation system. His refusal to compromise set the tone for the estate, and his descendants have stayed remarkably faithful to that stance. Through nearly a century of change, Gouges has remained one of Nuits’s most traditional voices, shaped by a family that never lost sight of its principles.
