Wine Critic Reviews
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The gorgeous Clos de la Roche 2011 from Domaine Arlaud offers open red cherries and wild strawberry scents on the pure and feminine bouquet that has superb vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe and rounded tannins that feel totally in sync with the racy acidity. This stylish grand cru gradually gains momentum, leading a really quite vital and vibrant finish that is spicy and feisty. There is a great deal going on within this Clos de la Roche and comes highly recommended.

(one-quarter of the Arlauds' Clos de la Roche vines are very old, the other three-quarters planted less than 30 years ago to clones): Medium red. Ineffable, sexy aromas of raspberry, strawberry, dried flowers, clove and cinnamon oil. Supple and open-knit if rather understated on the palate, offering a nice balance of fresh fruit and soil-driven saline character. Conveys an impression of rather soft acidity. Finishes with chewy tannins and a distinctly salty quality. This is the highest in pH of the Arlauds' 2011s, at 3.58.
