The 2022 Syrah Glass Collection comes from a warmer vintage, with the fruit hailing from southeast- and southwest-facing parcels on the estate. Done with partial whole-bunch, each batch fermented and aged separately for 12 months in used 500-liter barrels. It has an attractive, garrigue- and lavender-tinged bouquet that blossoms with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a medicinal/cough candy-infused entry that might be too pronounced at the moment, though that should be subsumed with a few months in bottle. A pleasant herbal character on the finish means that this is in a similar vein to the 2020. Fine, though not a top-tier Syrah.

The Glenelly 2022 Stellenbosch Glass Collection Syrah (in a screw-cap bottle) sees fruit from the estate and is fermented with partial whole-bunch berries and submerged cap. It ages in 500-liter barrel for 12 months, and no new oak is used. In fact, old Chardonnay barrels are used in this program. This is the proverbial meat-eaters red wine, with dark fruit and a savory side that reminds me of crispy bacon. That charred aroma cedes to some brambly rosemary and grilled herb.
