Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio, Barolo, Villero 2020

Showing bold ripeness with strawberry and sweet raspberry aromas, the Giuseppe Mascarello 2020 Barolo Villero is more reflective of the hot vintage than the other wines in this flight. The bouquet shows hints of white raisin and dried plum. But you also get the salty, mineral notes that distinguish Castiglione Falletto. In fact, they are central to the personality of this accessible wine. Villero ferments in cement and remains in contact with the skin for 16 to 18 days, or even up to 21 days in certain vintages. Oak aging was reduced by a few months in 2020, and the wine was put in bottle earlier than usual. I recommend a near or medium-term drinking window.
