The 2002 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru has a bright, earthy nose of black fruit permeated with shavings of black truffle and seaweed (Japanese nori). Lovely dried flower scents emerge with time, manifesting quite a complex aromatic profile. The palate is typical of 2002 Côte de Nuits, favoring elegance over power, and "transparent," with filigreed tannins and just a touch of hardness on the finish suggesting that you could afford it a few more months in bottle. Very fine.
