The 2013 Montrose has attractive freshness and vitality on the nose: blackberry, cedar and light graphite scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity. It's not complex but conveys joie-de-vivre. Just a bit blunt on the finish, but overall, probably the pick from Saint-Estèphe this vintage. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

A more than honorable performance in a vintage best forgotten, the 2013 Montrose reveals aromas of dark berries and cedary new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich palate framed by firm, powdery tannins. I suspect it will be at its best over the coming six or seven years, making it an atypically short-lived wine by this estate's standards.
