Canalicchio di Sopra, Brunello di Montalcino, Casaccia 2017

A whiff of confectionary spice, violet pastille, blood orange and blackberry wafts up from the exotic 2017 Brunello di Montalcino La Casaccia. This has found a lovely balance through bottle age, with soft and round textures, ripe wild berry fruits, inner florals and brisk acidity that enlivens the close. Its tannins emerge through the finish, angular and drying, yet maintaining freshness as a sour cherry tinge puckers the cheeks. While its bouquet shows the dry warmth of the vintage, the 2017 comes across as harmonious throughout.
