Ballot Millot, Pommard Premier Cru, Les Pezerolles 2022

The 2022 Pommard Les Pezerolles 1er Cru comes from an acquisition of grapes since the original parcel was taken back by Charles Ballot's cousin, Armand Heitz of Domaine Heitz-Lochardet. He buys the fruit back from him, so it is essentially the same wine, a kind of keep-it-in-the-family-métayage. The attractive bouquet is quite floral, with iris flowers infusing the dark berry fruit and hints of graphite and loam. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and fine acidity, full of tension with more edge and vitality than the Charmots. Excellent.
