Octavian

All of our storage operations are with Octavian Bond in Wiltshire. Octavian is custodian to more than 1.2 million cases of the most valuable wine, worth well over £1 billion.

Farthinghoe administers over 20,000 cases of wine on our clients' behalf and have an extremely good relationship with 'The Bond’ to ensure our clients receive the best possible service. We were one of their first clients when joining over 25 years ago.

Octavian Bond is widely regarded within the trade as ‘the’ Bonded Warehouse in the UK for the storage of Fine Wine for many important reasons:

  • Customs and Excise
  • Physical Conditions
  • Security
  • Administration
  • Delivery

Customs and
Excise

The warehouse is regarded as a 'Best Practice' operation by UK C&E; it has an excellent 'whiter than white' reputation - so important for our clients looking to store high-value wine over a long period of time.

*Any stock stored “In Bond” at Octavian is NOT subject to UK Duty or VAT unless cleared for use in the UK.

Physical Conditions and Security

In a word, perfect! The area of 20 football pitches as underground galleries, the Octavian facility was originally a limestone mine producing Bath stone, some 100 feet underground, offering ideal natural conditions for the storage of fine wine. With a multi-million-pound temperature and humidity control system, you can be assured that wine is stored between 13.5 -14° year in, year out, and that the humidity is maintained consistently around 75%.

There are only two ways in and out of Octavian, both of which are steep tunnels, an effort to walk up at the best of times, let alone carrying a case of wine. Security is an utmost priority at Octavian, with access being heavily regulated.
